The Best Solid Shampoo and Conditioner Bars for Travel: My Honest Kitsch Review

Kitsch Rosemary & Biotin solid shampoo and conditioner bars for travel on a white towel
After testing these on my own fine, naturally wavy hair, these solid shampoo and conditioner bars have earned a permanent spot in my carry-on travel bag.

If you're like me and love traveling with just a carry-on, every inch of suitcase space matters.

If you're looking for the best solid shampoo and conditioner bars for travel, I recently tested one of the most popular options before my upcoming international trips.

When I traveled to Japan, most hotels supplied shampoo and conditioner, so I didn't have to think much about toiletries. But with my upcoming 2-week trip to Thailand and 2½-week trip to Italy, I knew I needed another plan.

I wanted something that would:

  • Save space

  • Eliminate liquids (hello, TSA!)

  • Reduce weight

  • Still leave my hair looking and feeling great

After researching dozens of solid shampoo bars for travel, I decided to try the Kitsch Rosemary & Biotin Solid Shampoo and Conditioner Bars along with Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile Bar Soap.

I chose the Rosemary & Biotin formula because it's designed for fine, limp, and delicate hair—exactly what I was looking for before my upcoming trips.

I'm officially a fan.

These are the exact products I'll be taking with me to Thailand and Italy.

The Best Solid Shampoo & Conditioner Bars for Travel? My Honest Kitsch Review

I have fine hair with natural waves, so I'm picky about hair products.

The shampoo surprised me with how much it lathered. I expected it to feel different than liquid shampoo, but it created plenty of suds and left my hair feeling clean without stripping it.

The conditioner was the biggest surprise. My hair felt incredibly soft, and when I got out of the shower, I could easily run my fingers through it. My natural waves bounced right back instead of feeling dry or weighed down.

After using the Kitsch Rosemary & Biotin shampoo and conditioner bars, my fine, naturally wavy hair felt clean, soft, and lightweight without feeling stripped or weighed down.

For body wash, I used Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile Bar Soap on both my face and body. One product replaces multiple bottles, and I love the cooling peppermint feeling after a shower.

I wanted a body soap that was simple, effective, and travel-friendly. Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Bar Soap checked all the boxes and paired perfectly with my solid shampoo and conditioner bars.

The Little Travel Upgrade I Didn't Know I Needed

I also picked up these inexpensive mesh hanging soap bags.

Before every trip, I cut each bar into travel-sized pieces, so I only pack what I'll actually use. It saves space, reduces weight, and if I accidentally lose one, I haven't lost an entire bar.

I then place each one into its own labeled mesh bag:

  • Shampoo

  • Conditioner

  • Body Wash

The breathable bags allow the bars to dry between uses, keep everything organized, and make them easy to hang in almost any hotel shower.

It's such a simple system, but it's made traveling with solid toiletries incredibly convenient.

Even Better...

One of the reasons I chose Kitsch was because I checked it in the Yuka app first.

It scored 86/100 (Excellent) and is free of harsh sulfates and silicones, making me feel even better about putting it on my hair.

One bonus I wasn't expecting: both products received an Excellent rating in the Yuka app, giving me even more confidence in my choice.

As someone who tries to be more intentional about the products I use, that was a big bonus for me.

Will I Travel With These Again?

Absolutely.

Instead of packing bulky bottles that can leak or count against my liquid allowance, I'll simply cut off what I need for the trip and toss the bars into my travel kit.

They take up almost no room, weigh next to nothing, and worked far better than I expected.

For anyone who loves carry-on travel, these have officially earned a permanent spot on my packing list.

Travel Rating: 10/10 — Highly Recommended
